The Cranbury Public ‘pocket’ Library is finally open to the public for browsing our collection! With our new ADA accessible ramp, we can welcome ALL the community into our temporary space. However, I want to stress that we are offering only limited service at this time for several reasons.
- Even with vaccinations, COVID is still present and a threat to staff and public safety – especially indoors.
- Our temporary space is small and makes it difficult to effectively social distance.
- There is no area or furniture for community members to sit and read.
- There is only one table and chair reserved for notary service or limited Chromebook use.
If you do come in to browse and choose books to read, we are happy to have you here. To keep everyone safe we ask that you call the library (609-722-6992) to make an appointment. This will help us limit the number of people in the space at one time. Those entering the building must wear face coverings and practice social distancing. Browsing is by appointment for 25-minute intervals starting on the hour and half hour. Children under 12 years of age are welcome but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
If you have enjoyed using our curbside service these past few months you may continue to request items and pick them up outside as before. In some cases, this may be the best way to request books. As I mentioned above our space is small – so small it houses only half our collection. Older titles are stored offsite and will require extra time for staff to retrieve them. For that reason, if you know the title you are interested in borrowing, please request it prior to visiting the library.
You can return items by using the bookdrop or placing them on the returns cart at the door. One computer will be available to search our catalog. Please bring your library card with you when you visit. You will need it to use our touchless checkout. Read our complete Phased Reopening Plan here.
To take advantage of our handicapped entrance please park in the rear of the building in the handicapped parking area. The entrance is located between the houses at 7 and 11 Maplewood Avenue. Drive down the long driveway to access the handicapped parking and entrance ramp on the right side of the building. The door opens into the staff area of the library but the route to the front is clearly marked.
The staff and I look forward to seeing you IN the library!
